Ballast Water Management
About the Course
Once the IMO Ballast Water Convention comes into force, Ballast Water Management will become a crucial aspect of ship operations with legal consequences for non-compliance. With the new convention set to become international law imminently, the industry will only have 5 years to come into compliance, which may sound like a long time to some but will present huge challenges to the industry as a whole. Understanding the background to this problem and the challenges inherent in choosing the right technology for the vessel can help owners avoid costly mistakes whilst ensuring compliance. Whilst a treatment system may achieve the required discharge standard and has flag-state approval, this does not merit suitability for all vessel types and trades. The operation of the system may well cause operational difficulties so equipment choice has a direct commercial impact on owners.
Ballast Water Management is a two-day masterclass that covers a number of important issues owners and managers need to take into account when planning for compliance with the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention. Practical challenges, industry requirements, and treatments available are also covered. The course combines lectures, discussions, and exercises which leaves delegates with enough information to prepare and plan for compliance with the legislation.
