An Excel-based introductory course on financial modelling, risk analysis and evaluation of mining projects for decision making at the conceptual to pre-feasibility stages, focusing on:

  • Constructing realistic financial models for the evaluation of mineral projects
  • How to model the role of equity and debt in the funding structure of projects and to assess the related financial leverage
  • Identification and quantification of project and financial risk using sensitivity and scenario analyses and Monte Carlo simulation
  • Criteria for investment decisions under uncertainty – balancing risk and returns in line with corporate risk profiles and preferences

Expert Course Director

Dr Pietro Guj holds a dual appointment as Research Professor at the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia and as Adjunct Professor in Mineral Economics at the Graduate School of Business of Curtin University. He brings with him his experience and knowledge that spans over 40 years in senior roles in the mining industry, government and education capacities.
