Toward the end of 2018, more and more ship owners have been considering marine scrubbers as their technological alternative to prepare themselves ahead of Sulphur compliance that will come to take effect in 2020. Despite the capability to enable vessels to consume HSFOs and avoid uncertainties regarding LSFO accessibility and fuel costs, investing in marine scrubbers involves a wide range of considerations, and multi-disciplinary decision makers, from technical, legal to financial operational aspects. This 45-minute presentation will allow ship owners and ship managers to learn and discuss with one of the few independent experts around the world on Marine Scrubbers & EGCS who have had decades of experience developing the technology and managing conversion, installation & retrofitting projects. You will learn basic scrubbers working principles, how to select the suitable technologies, how to choose a system and suppliers, plot costs necessary for investment and future operations, as well as key takeaways from operational & maintenance know-hows.
This presentation is a highlight extract from IBC Asia’s seminar led by Dr. Hansen on Marine Scrubbers & Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems ((8-9 April 2019, Singapore; 11-12 April 2019, Hong Kong)
- Scrubbers basic working principle and technology options
- Choosing a system – OPEX, CAPEX, total cost plot examples
- Conversion contracts and project management – key principles and costs
- Investment and ROI estimates
- Introductory: Onboard operations, crew training, maintenance and calibration needed for different systems
Dr. Jens Peter Hansen, Owner, ECA Engineering Aps Jens has more than 20 years of R&D and Project Management experience with technologies for emission reduction – including SOx, NOx and other particulate matter. His expertise emphasises on Fuel Systems and Marine Scrubbers. He gained his pioneering mastery through industry experiences with Haldor Topsøe, FLSmidth & Co and Most recently Alfa Laval, where he initiated the first R&D activities with exhaust gas scrubbers which led to successful installation of world’s largest scrubber systems onboard a ship (20 MW MAN engine) in 2010. In recent years, Jens continues to advise the installation of scrubbers for many major ship owners across Europe and Asia, including DFDS, Torm A/S, Ultra Ship A/S.
