The safety standards and inspections reserved for Chemical tankers’ operations are amongst the highest in shipping industry. While hazardous incidents have been observed to decline over the past decades, they still exist. On the other hand, the most recent surveys conducted from thousands of chemical tankers’ incident investigations around the world found that around 80% of those incidents were caused by or partially by human errors aboard vessels or during cargo loading/discharging, while the vast majority of remaining incidents took place due to the inadequacy of safety equipment, preventive and corrective maintenance as per manuals. With a strategic focus on liquid bulk, this 45-minute presentation will officers responsible for chemical tankers, cargoes, chartering, handling & transportation safety to learn more about safety practices and discuss with expert on the most recent incidents, including their own, and grasp the recent trends on incident investigations.
This presentation is a highlight extract from IBC Asia’s seminar led by Capt. Axel on Bulk Liquid Chemicals – Storage, Transportation and Claims (10-11 April 2019, Singapore).
